Earl battered some islands across the northeastern Caribbean with heavy rain and roof-ripping winds Monday, rapidly intensifying into a major Category 3 storm on a path projected to menace the eastern United States coast.
Hurricane Fiona is right behind Earl but not expected to come ashore, rather it will stay out at sea. Many cruise lines have diverted their routes and fishermen are staying on shore. This time the Gulf has been spared, but the hurricane season isn't over yet.
