New Lighting

Moving to a new apartment showed me what all I had accumulated through the years.  When I finally settled into the apartment.  I started assessing some of the things I kept and some of the things I needed to invest in.  I brought a few lights with me, but noticed that I needed lamps in the living room.  A nice lighting fixture
in the bathroom would give it a more modern look.  I will have to do some shopping in order to find the exact style and design I'm interested in.

Jets Beat Colts

The Colts (14-1) lost for the first time since Oct. 27, 2008, at Tennessee, ending a franchise-record 13-game winning streak at home. The coach pulled a handful of starters for the previously unbeaten Colts in the third quarter, and the Jets took advantage by rallying for a 29-15 victory that ended the NFL’s longest regular-season winning streak at 23 games.  The Jets’ win ended Indianapolis’ streak and showed once again how difficult it is to go undefeated.  As the clock wound down, some fans were silent and many left. Those who stayed booed as players shook hands, an odd way to end the record-setting 23-game streak.

MP3

Did you get everything you needed to buy for the Christmas gifts you were giving?  I know some people who wait until after Christmas and catch the sales for better price's on their Christmas gifts.  Many teens are wanting MP3 players  as gifts and if you weren't in the mood to spend that much money, then here's your chance to get one anyway. It may be after Christmas, but they will still get one, and be able to enjoy many hours of listening fun.

Carolina Takes The Giants.......

One of the ugliest moments in franchise history with a 41-9 rout that left New York hoping for a miracle ending to make the playoffs. The Giants, who started 5-0, knew what was at stake, the Panthers shredded New York’s defense for 416 yards, including 247 rushing. They needed to win their final two games and hope that either Green Bay or Dallas lost one of their remaining two.
Coupled with Green Bay’s win over Seattle, the only way the Giants can get to the playoffs for the fifth straight year would be if Dallas lost its final two games, starting on Sunday night against Washington, and New York beat Minnesota next week.
Can you say wishful thinking? Giants fans are skeptical: After booing their defense most of the day, many left the stadium well before the game ended.

Susanna Maiolo, identified by the Vatican as the woman who jumped a barrier inside St. Peter's Basilica at the start of Christmas Eve Mass, and rushed at Pope Benedict XVI for the second time in two years, managing to knock him down before being pulled away by security. The incident in the Basilica raised fresh questions about security for the pontiff, however, after officials said the woman involved had jumped the barrier at the 2008 Midnight Mass in a failed bid to get to the pope. She even wore the same red-hooded sweat shirt. Benedict, 82, wasn't hurt and delivered his traditional Christmas Day greetings in 65 languages from the loggia overlooking St. Peter's Square.
It seems that there are certain people in this world who don't understand the word "sacred".  It's this "new world" life that's been forced upon us all........

Tens of thousands of villagers have been evacuated as a precaution.  The five-step warning system was raised to level four, meaning a hazardous eruption "is possible within days." Level five is when a major eruption has begun.

Heisman Winner

Alabama running back Mark Ingram won the Crimson Tide their first Heisman Trophy in the award's closest vote.

Ingram wiped away tears and took a moment to steady himself before starting his speech. His voice wavered throughout.  The tough-running sophomore tailback turned tearful after winning the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in the closest vote in the award’s 75-year history.
“I’m a little overwhelmed right now,” he said. “I’m just so excited to bring Alabama their first Heisman winner.”
In his final chance to make a case for the Heisman, facing Florida’s then-top-ranked defense, Ingram ran for 113 yards and scored three touchdowns to punctuate his season.
The son of the former Michigan State and NFL receiver of the same name. Tide coach Nick Saban had coached the elder Ingram in college.

Thank A Soldier........

Due to overwhelming demand, Thank A Soldier is having an overload, and so it's my pleasure to try and help by posting this article from their email to me.

STARTING THIS CAUSE
Why did you start Thank a soldier?
You can go to thankasoldier.net and read my "About Me" but briefly It started over three years ago when I heard there was a Tim Hortons in Afghanistan and came up with a Idea to send troops free coffee. Then just about a year ago I was listening to a song by Julian Austin called "The Red & White" which has a line in it "Do we take the time to thank a soldier" and it all started with that.

DONATIONS:

1. Why does this cause not have a beneficiary?
When this cause was first started December 28th 2008 I had chosen a Canadian Military charity as the beneficiary, but after a lot of people started to join from all over the world I wanted to make it about showing our men and women gratitude and not about donations so I removed it all together. As the numbers started to get larger and larger I was getting flooded with requests by charities to be added as the beneficiary also which got out of control.

2. How is Thankasoldier.net able to stay advertisement free and no donations?
Through the sale of our t-shirts we are able to pay for hosting fees and other expenses related to the site and I like not having any advertisements on there because it keeps the authenticity of the site and I have gotten many comments from soldiers and family members for keeping it that way.

Preferably one in uniform and some not in uniform. If you would like to see the few that have already been done you can go to Thankasoldier.net and click on TRIBUTES

Roman Polanski, was granted bail at $4.5 million on Wednesday Nov. 25, 2009 in a surprising decision that keeps the 76-year-old director imprisoned for up to 10 days pending a possible appeal by the Swiss government. The Swiss Criminal Court reversed its previous rejection of bail, saying it was confident that the large cash guarantee would compel Polanski to remain at his chalet in Switzerland under house arrest and in an electronic bracelet. It still viewed him as a high flight risk. I should say so, since in fact that is exactly what he did, when he left the US to get away from being sentenced for his crime.

Traveling Abroad?

I'm sure there are some who are traveling abroad for the holidays and they will need to find transportation, while visiting. There are several ways to handle your transportation, and still be able to enjoy the scenery in the areas. You may want to rent a car, SUV or whatever type of transportation, you need. There's a website, where you can enter your destination, date of arrival, and departure, and find a suitable vehicle to handle your traveling needs. I suggest going to Car Hire UK and put in your information when you apply. They will let you know what is available in the certain area your are traveling to. You can then decide on the range of expenses you need to apply to your travel situation. Enjoying your holiday will be most important on your agenda, so get all the applications and orders accomplished before you arrive, and have everything ready and waiting.

First State Dinner..........

In the history of U.S.-India relations, there's been plenty of broken bread and even a few crumbled Triscuits.

American presidents have entertained India's leaders over fine wine and even finer food for the past 60 years — at grand White House dinners with hundreds of guests in black-tie, at an intimate Sunday lunch and away from Washington's prying eyes near a storied Civil War battlefield.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is coming for a state visit and all that it entails — a pomp-filled welcome ceremony that was brought inside the White House because of rainy weather, private time with Obama, a joint news conference and, in the evening, the state dinner, to be held outside for 320 people.

First lady Michelle Obama's staff, which has planned what could be Washington's hottest social event since the inauguration, has kept a tight lid on the details. But some elements, like the huge white tent going up on the South Lawn, couldn't remain secret for long. That alone means hundreds more people will be attending than if dinner had been scheduled indoors in the State Dining Room, which seats a maximum 140 guests. Here we go affording another lavish event, and he just got back from China? The guy is really abusing the American government's financial situations.

Sanford Faces 37 Charges..........

FILE - In this file photo taken Aug. 13, 2009 South Carolina ...
Sanford faces ethics charges he broke state laws more than three dozen times by violating rules on airplane travel and campaign money, according to details of the allegations released Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. Sanford's lawyers have claimed the allegations involve minor and technical aspects of the law.

For months, Sanford has insisted he did nothing wrong and served as a better steward of the taxpayer dollar than his predecessors. But the former congressman's penchant for riling fellow Republicans who control the Legislature has left him with few allies since the startling June news conference during which he admitted to the affair.

Among the mistakes the ethics commission says the governor made were:

• Approval of the purchase of four first- and business-class commercial airline tickets for a June 2008 trip during which he met with his mistress in Argentina.

• Personal use of state-owned aircraft for trips such as the birthday party of a campaign contributor in Aiken, and flying from Myrtle Beach to Columbia for a "personal event," including a haircut.

• Reimbursing himself nearly $3,000 using campaign contributions, including about $900 for expenses to attend a Republican Governors Association meeting in Miami and a hunting trip in Dublin, Ireland, several days later.

Over Qualified........?

It’s a toss up these days. Which way to go is a thing to ponder. You have so many ways, to search for a job and it gets even harder, to get one in the publice realm. There are so many people out of work. Some by choice, some from lay-off’s, retirements, company closings. It’s a problem, many people endure, daily.

If your over 50 years of age, here comes the problem, right? You go to an interview, and what happens? You know all too well, what happened, when you get a letter saying, you were “over qualified”, for the position. I’ve been there done that.

Oh they say, they are an equal opportunity employer. Not so, if your not young and just starting out then they don’t want you. They want the dashing young men in the offices. The cute sexy, tailered young ladies, have to be on the front desks, to cater to the executives. Administrative assistant, consists of a well dressed, college professors, with 1 to 2 masters degrees in business administration, under the age of 40.

If you don’t have a good background in some high powered originization, by the time your in your 40’s, good luck on the position, you will be offered. Many older people, are thankful to be accepted for medial jobs, that rarely pay more than $7.00 to $10.00 per hour.

“Over qualified”, is a term used to really say, your “too old” and we want someone younger in the position. I’ve also, been told that, I probably wouldn’t stay with the job, because I wouldn’t be getting the pay I had been accustomed to. So, they decided not to hire me, based on that. They never ask if you just want a job closer to home, so you don’t have to drive so far. They never ask if your just wanting to supplement your social security or your spouse’s income. It’s always, “wow, your really qualified for a better position, than this one”, why do you want this job? Not very often do you find an company that wants an employee, experienced and mature enough to appreciate a good paying job. It’s very easy to get discouraged, when trying to get employment at an older age. I’m sure many of you have suffered the same indignities, I have. It would be nice to be able to speak out without reprecussions. I know there are advocates out there, but they’re never where we need them to be, when it’s our problem happening. It’s very embarrassing, to have to ask for help, after all that we’ve been through in the past years. We’ve worked hard and deserve respect, that we don’t get. Yet, we keep trying, rather than give up.

To Believe.......

Many things come to mind, as I write this post. Mostly I find the reasons, come from within. Finding reasons to believe, are very hard to do, when you are so wrapped up in other feelings and locations of emotions. You may ask, what are we believing in on this subject or that? Well, it may be yourself, your mom, dad, sibling, a friend, mentor or great leader. Things that help us believe, come from the heart, inspiration, or just a incident that happened, waiting for us to see it. Believing in something gives us a reason to live our life daily, in the manner, we need to feel comfortable. If we believe, then there is a strength to carry us through any occurrence, we may come in contact with. To believe, is to have a reason or a value in which, to live and have hope of the future.

Almost Gone

Some say it’s just another year, but in reality it’s another year gone by and we just can’t get it back. It’s like a bad comment, that we can’t wish, we hadn’t said. The older I get the harder it is to watch them go by.

The children are in such a hurry, to grow up, that reality for them, is delusional. They can’t see how far it is, to growing up the way, we the older people can see it. Full of energy and life, they strive to get the years behind them, so they can get to another point in life.

I remember the young adult years. It seemed they were so busy, with the predominate things needing to be done. How fast they flew. Here I am saying, “Why it was only yesterday”…… a familiar phrase heard so many times, from my parents and grandparents. ”It was”, only yesterday or so it seemed.

New Year’s brings memories of the old year and hopes of good things in the new one. Our emotions overwhelm us when looking back to what was and what is now. Our hope runs amok, with great expectations, of happiness, love, good fortunes, and financial stability. Yes, it will be a new year, to reach for all new things and hold in your heart the memories of the past.

Another One Shot.......

Well, there it went. Right down the drain, just like so many others. I have a lousy track record for friendships. I just can’t seem to get it right. You think things are going good and poof, they blow up in your face. I’ve always considered a good friendship not to have boundaries. But I sure was wrong on that idea.

The idea that a friend was there no matter what, or that a friend would understand or care about what was going on with you, just became my ideas. Not anyone else’s. I guess I’m just too old fashion. I believe with all my heart, love the same and try to be a friend as well.

I finally allowed myself to try again to have this type of relationship with someone, and once again was shot down. I forgot that their life has it’s own querks and that I must remember that there are boundaries, to a friendship. I guess I think that everyone has the same ideas, and values that I do.

Heck, I also forgot that this is a diversified world of people, who have been raised in different environments, than me. Who did I think I was to be so selfish as to think everyone could think and feel like me? I’m so out of touch with reality, that I actually tried!

I’m sure it will be a long time again, before I’ll do that same thing. I don’t like being treated with disdain and talked to in such a horrible manner. So, to protect myself from such candor, I will go back into my safe shell and stay there. It’s much safer inside and I can like myself anyway I want to. Darn that sounds childish. I guess there’s just been too much rejection in my world, for me to be able to cope very often. I can’t accept making the effort and having it thrown back at me, like a bad piece of meat. So, I’ll just stay the heck out of everyone’s way and make my own way.

Just another day in paradise.

Designer Fashions

When visiting this website, it was an adventure in designer fashion clothing. Everywhere you looked the words "Designer Fashion" jumped out at you. I notice a particular brand, listed as BCBG Max Azria and decided to have a look. Many of the items, were for under garments, but they also incorporated handbags, blouses and other things. I'm sure you will be able to find plenty of good clothing specials to shop for.

Digital Cameras......

Do you remember back in the 50's & 60's, when there were no digital cameras , TV's and cell phones. There weren't any home computers either and this really shows you how far technology has come. Today, we are much further advanced that back then and it's a pleasure to see what the world of electronic's will show us next. I'm interested in another digital camera, because I've been carrying my present one around, and it's getting worse for wear.

Health Care Legislation.........

Senate health care legislation expected this week is likely to include a new long-term care insurance program to help the elderly and the disabled avoid going into nursing homes. It would begin to close a gap in the social safety net that's received little attention in the health care debate.

Fiscal conservatives and government economists have questioned whether the program would be financially sustainable over the long run, and insurance companies are lobbying to strip it from the health care bill.

Medicare only covers temporary nursing home stays. Middle-class households have to exhaust their savings before an elder can qualify for nursing home coverage through Medicaid.

Under the proposed program, people would pay a modest monthly premium during their working years. If they become disabled, they would get a cash benefit of at least $50 a day that could be used to pay a home care attendant, buy supplies and equipment, make home improvements such as adding bathroom railings, or defray the costs of nursing home care.

Protest HR3962

Folks, we are dedicating the next couple months of our lives to stopping the phony reform, and forcing Congress to get real about good public policy. The bill that passed the House last week, HR 3962, represents one of the most profound betrayals in American political history. Forget the fact that the Republicans oppose it as well, they would oppose anything coming out of a Congress where they did not have majority control. WE must oppose HR 3962 because it is a transparent sham, a total sellout to the medical insurance industry. Each and every one of these gutless wonders needs to hear our protests now. Worldwide Groceries.......

What is it that the whole is interested in, and is still trying to find new innovative ideas for? Well if you like me, then I know what it is and that's food. it makes no difference whether you are vegetarian, or not. Food is still your staple diet. Meat, vegetables, condiment's, desserts, breads, it's all the same. We as the people.........like food, and the more spicey, rich or juicy, it is, the better we like it. Since I'm a Texan, that means I'm a steak & potato person. Beef is raised in Texas and it is considered a staple, along with a nice pot of beans or baked potato. The internet & computers has taken over peoples way of life, when it comes to shopping or looking for information. Buying groceries is no exception, along with many other things. For while you could only access certain food chains, to get service and order food. Most of the time it was a local company that offered home delivered groceries to it's customers. Since I'm not familiar with with this food website, I can't say that it's the greatest or the only one to shop. I know that it offers ethnic foods as well and the down home southern meals, we so love here in Texas. For more information about this website, and the foods listed to procure, click on the above link and look around.
