Supporters of former Philippines president Corazon Aquino pay their last respects during her wake in Manila, Saturday Aug. 1, 2009. 'Cory' Aquino, whose 'People Power' revolution toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos, died Saturday after a battle with colon cancer. Military honor guards carried former President Corazon Aquino's flag-draped casket to a school gym Saturday for public viewing, as Filipinos mourned the beloved democracy icon who swept away a dictator and fought off seven coup attempts.
Aquino's death at age 76 led Filipinos from all walks of life to reflect on the legacy of the accidental opposition leader, whose rise to prominence began only after the 1983 assassination of her politician husband, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.
