Les Paul dies at 94..........

Guitar legend Les Paul performs at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York. Paul, 94, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, died, Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 in White Plains, N.Y., according to Gibson Guitar.

Typhoon Hits China's East Coast

A hotel building leans before falling in a heavily flooded river after Typhoon Morakot hit Taitung county, Taiwan, Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009.

A six-story hotel in Chihpen, Taitung county, Taiwan collapses and plunges into a river after floodwaters eroded its base as typhoon Morakot passed through the area. All 300 people in the hotel were evacuated and uninjured, officials said. Typhoon Morakot slammed into China's east coast Sunday just hours after nearly 1 million people evacuated the area. It earlier lashed Taiwan with torrential rains that caused the island's worst flooding in 50 years and left dozens missing and feared dead.

Possible Security Risks........

US soldiers use computers at an internet room in a US military base. The US Defense Department said it is reviewing the use of Facebook and other social media amid concern the sites pose a cyber security risk for sensitive military networks. Marine Corps on Monday issued an administrative directive saying it was banning the use of Marine network for accessing such sites as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Goodbye To Cory........

Supporters of former Philippines president Corazon Aquino pay their last respects during her wake in Manila, Saturday Aug. 1, 2009. 'Cory' Aquino, whose 'People Power' revolution toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos, died Saturday after a battle with colon cancer. Military honor guards carried former President Corazon Aquino's flag-draped casket to a school gym Saturday for public viewing, as Filipinos mourned the beloved democracy icon who swept away a dictator and fought off seven coup attempts. Aquino's death at age 76 led Filipinos from all walks of life to reflect on the legacy of the accidental opposition leader, whose rise to prominence began only after the 1983 assassination of her politician husband, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.

"Unity is a rare thing in our country; we have it now, and adding to the feelings of grief is the wistful realization that it took the passing of Cory to reunite a divided nation."
