Oh My.......

The weather, has really taken it's toll on property and lives in the last few months.  I recently volunteered for the Red Cross Chapter in my area and got as much training as I have been able to get.  Still I'm not really ready to advance into the mass disaster areas, without someone beside me who is experienced.  When I found all the different aspects of mass disaster relief, it became a scary situation.  I'm sure I'm not strong enough to handle some of the situations, that could arise.  My boss has been deployed to Oklahoma for 3 weeks and from the stories I've heard from reports up there, she has had her job cut out for her.  She told her boss, that she's doing well and that her time there, so far has been a good experience.  At the time she was on the phone to her boss, there were more storms in the area, and threats of tornadoes loomed about.  I only hope that the weather holds and she can come back to us soon, cause I'm getting bored not being able to work down here in our Chapter office.

Volcano Reeks Havoc.......

A week of airspace closures caused by the ash threat to planes created the worst breakdown in civil aviation in Europe since World War II. More than 100,000 flights were canceled and airlines are on track to lose over $2 billion. The aviation crisis that began with an April 14 volcanic eruption in Iceland left millions of passengers in limbo and sparked calls for a wholesale reform of Europe's air traffic system.
Scientists at Iceland's meteorological office said the Eyjafjallajokull volcano produced very little ash Thursday but remained quite active, with magma boiling in the crater. The plume of ash was below 10,000 feet (3 kilometers) and winds were not expected to take it over 20,000 feet. 

Pressure on Putin.....

Putin admitted that there's little prospect of locking down Moscow's sprawling transportation system, which is used by upwards of 10 million people daily, including thousands of market vendors who routinely lug large packages on and off metro trains. But he called for increased use of surveillance equipment, such as security cameras, as has become common practice in London and other European capitals.  But no one is sure what options may be available to crush the insurgency that is spreading in the mainly-Muslim North Caucasus and now, once again, appears to threaten Russia's main population centers with random violence.
