Peaches

From last month when the blooms were just popping out, you see we now have peaches.

 

The weather spared the new fruit, when we had some frost one morning a couple of weeks ago.  I'm very glad, because this tree puts out some really sweet peaches in June.  The other peach tree I have, doesn't mature until August.  So, I have two seasons on peaches to process each year.

Spring is Here

It certainly is spring and with it comes these beauties that grace my front flower beds.  Mom, planted them several years back and they are thriving well.  I've ven had enough to give starts to my sister for her yard.

A New Day

Looking out the window, it's hard to remember yesterday's dreary wet cold.  While it is still crisp this morning, there's is a beautiful sun out in all it's splendor and the birds are singing.  Temps are supposed to warm up more tomorrow, but you never know what to expect with spring approaching.  Today, I'll take the bright sunshine and no rain.  That's a plus that makes the day feel good.

Several

As you know the winter season brings with it the risk of catching the flu.  Many are crowding the ER's at local hospitals this year.  The "flu" season has taken off a month early causing the hospitals to be full of waiting sick people.  The Health Departments in area counties are telling people to get the "flu" shot if they haven't already.  In some areas the supplies are already low or depleted.  People are taking this seriously after a local teenager died last week from complications of the flu. 

Weeds?

The guy next door is mowing his yard.  There isn't anything to mow because of the drought we've been having.  I realize that the trees are dropping leaves on a daily basis.  This could lead to clutter and cause him to want to mow.  My yard looks horrible with all the falling leaves.  There are plenty more on the trees to fall, so why go and mow them now.  I would have to go back and mow again in 2 weeks.

Storms

Yesterday was a very hot day in Texas and yet with it came welcomed rain last night.  I was very glad to have the rain because of my vegetable garden and flowers.  The grass is starting to turn brown and the ground has been cracking open.  Even though there were high winds, we managed to make it through the storms without a problem.  I am very thankful for the wonderful rain, because the plants seem so refreshed this morning.

Just Waiting

Here are some of the vegetables in my garden.  I'm waiting for them to grow and make me some fresh veggies this summer..

Water Standing

 

As you can tell there is still water standing in my vegetable garden, from all the rain we received.  I'm unable to get in it and remove the weeds which are enjoying the company.  It's a real mess and there are still some vegetables waiting to be planted for the season.

Purple Yard.......

No this is not blue bonnets.  This is grape hyacinths that have taken over my yard.  They have been in the ground for years and come back each spring to grace the yard with their beauty.  Walking around the yard is a problem, because you will step on them.  It really doesn't bother them if you do, because they are hardy and grow right back the next year as if nothing happened.

Snow?

The "DFW" areas of Texas were issued a storm warning in the realm of sleet mixed with snow.  That was last night and it was to last through this morning.  Man, it's been raining most of the day and it's still dripping off the house from all the moisture.  I noticed that the weathermen are predicting more rain this coming Wednesday.  I'm sure the ground is soaked, but the lakes need it, so I will just have to put up with the extra rain.  Planting my potatoes, will be a muddy mess, if I get to do it this weekend.

Rain

Well, I can't say that I'm not wanting the rain to come, because it's needed.  Since I can't control the weather, I must accept what comes and be thankful for the good that has been given.  Texas has been in a drought for a good while and now the rain is coming to us.  I had hoped that it would hold off another week so the ground would have time to dry out a bit, and I would be able to plant the potatoes in my vegetable garden.  Right now our soil is very wet from last week's rain and I'm sure it will keep it from drying out enough to plant.

Needed Rain

 

As you can see on the top left hand side of this photo, there is water standing.  You can't complain about this if you are one who lives in Texas.  We have been in a horrible drought situation and this rain is really welcomed.  I appreciate it for the garden, but at the present I really need to get the soil loosened up so that we can start planting when the different moon phases arrive.  I hope to plant the potatoes next week, but it looks as though another good rain is on the way.

Lilies

Blooming are the "bread & butter" lilies, which grow beside the house in a flower bed.  There are several of these plants and they have taken over this one area.  I need to remove some of them and will do so when the fall arrives.  There are many small trees in the flower beds as well.  These will need to be dug out by the roots instead of being cut off as before.  Now, the roots will be much larger and deeper in the ground, making it y harder to dig them out.  I truly have my work cut out for me to do in the next few months.  This will be an ongoing project that will never let up.

Wisteria

I recently moved into my old family home and was delighted to find that the old wisteria bush had survived att these many years and seasons.  This bloom was from some of the new growth and I found one or two others blooming as well.  Since then I have trimmed the bush back so that the flower beds can get needed air and sun for the soil underneath.  I have some much more work to do in the flower beds because they are overgrown with all types of small trees and plants.

Green Beans

In this picture is my green beans that I have planted in a pot, on my patio.  At the present I live in an apartment and the only way I can grow anything is in planters or pot.  I've had to carry the soil that I bought at the store up 2 flights of stairs to get the stuff going.  I hope to get a few beans from these healthy looking plants.
