The very first “Strictly Stock” race took place at Charlotte Speedway, June 19, 1949, in a 150-mile race on the three-quarter mile speedway, which was located about 20 minutes down I-85 from the current Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Bill France decided to make the move in 1949 to outlaw the “modifieds” and run strictly stock cars so that fans could relate to the cars and drivers.

Most of the cars were driven to the track and it was set to have the fastest 33 drivers enter the race, an ode to the Indianapolis 500 field.

The track was mainly in a residential area. There were lots of complaints about the noise and the dust in the neighborhood,” Overton Jr. said. “There was an overflow crowd, so we found a weeping willow tree on a high bank over turn three. There was just a board fence around the track in those days. So we watched the race and ate dirt from up there, and that was my first real NASCAR exposure.”

And so you have it, on this day, 68yrs. ago..........It is said Petty, made his start!

ELECTION DAY

The day has arrived, for the next Presidential election, to decide our nation's fate.  It is with regret for many that we only have two options to choose from.  Hillary or Trump, are not what we want to elect, but there's not much left to go with.
Therefore, it is one or the other, and God help us on both........It's a scary situation, when you consider the backgrounds of these two people.  I just don't know what we as American's are going to do?

Tenn. Attack Leaves 5 Dead

Once again our nation is reeling from the attack of a terrorist in a one man ordeal.  Two locations were attacked leaving 4 military and the gunman dead.  Reports have it that a lone gunman drove up to both places in a silver Mustang convertible.  Shots were fired into both facilities by this gunman, leaving many businesses on "lock down", until the areas were secured. 
We offer prayers to the families, friends and coworkers of the slain.  May God comfort them and give them strength to move through the following days after this event.

CMA's

Were you watching the CMA awards last night?  If you were then you know that Blake Shelton took "top male vocalist of the year", Miranda Lambert, (his wife) took "top female vocalist of the year" and Luke Bryan to "Top Entertainer of the Year".  Congrats to all who won and I know it makes them feel really great to be acknowledged at the best.

 I know of several people who will be glued to their TV screens during this race.  Let's hope for good weather and a safe race for all the drivers.

Kate is Out and About

The Duchess is stunning in a bright, crisp cerulean dress at the opening of the ICAP Art Room at Northolt High School in Ealing, London, on Friday, Feb. 14.  Looking radiant and smiling as she greeted the crowds of kids in the hall.  The ICAP Art Room is meant to offer art therapy to children who face various challenges in their lives.  The Art Room will have on the attitudes to learning, confidence, and sense of safety of those students who benefit from this provision.

Shirley Dies at 85

The beautiful little girl that everyone love back during the era I grew up in.  Everyone's little "darling" who took the world's heart with her bouncy bright smile.  Those eyes would win her many titles even in later years as she enter politics.  So long to our little darling..........condolences to the family and friends.

A Tribute to Ray Price

This is a tribute to Ray Price who passed away recently from cancer.

News

The recent headlines gave us the array of "what now's"?  Being declared "not guilty" has made our nation become mass of protest sections.  Some are against the verdict, while others think it was just.  The two names involved in the case, has been well known for several months.  As with most media news, we the public watched and finally got tired of hearing about it on a daily basis. There isn't any good news to tell us about as yet.  Maybe the birth of a Royal" will give relief to the tiring public.

My heart goes out to Paula Dean during this time of sadness.  It really irks me that people can blow this type of thing out of proportion the way they do.  The news media is having a "hay day" with this and it's not good they way they are throwing words around.  It's not criminal to be human or to cut up and joke about things.  We are all in a glass house as long as we are alive.  Like she said, "pick up the stone and throw it".just make sure you don't hit the glass in your own window when you do.

A Baby

Very soon there will be a new Royal heir to the throne in England.  Prince William & his wife Kate, will become parents in July.  I wonder if tradition will cause him to buy cigars to pass out on the occasion?  He can get great cigar deals  if he goes online to order them.  I'm sure that he will have the best of everything to announce this special baby.

Watch Out!

What’s up with these young people, who think the freeway, is their personal raceway?
Have you seen these young people on these Ninja motorcycles, flying at top speeds down the freeway? It’s amazing, how they just pop a “wheely” and cruise down the road on the back wheel, for X amount of minutes. then down they come, almost loosing control of the bike.
No wonder there are so many deaths on these bikes. They should be outlawed, to anyone under thirty years of age. I’m not sure that would change the statistics any. I have a couple of children, in their thirties, that I don’t believe, would have any better sense, than to do the same as these, young idiots.
It takes my breath every time one passes me on the road. I’m just praying that he will get past me without loosing control and sliding under my car or the one’s in front of me. I’m afraid the site of such an accident would scar my emotions, for the rest of my life. I would have a hard time sleeping at night, should my car hit a person’s body lying in the road.
My spouse calls them potential “organ donors” , to which I definitely agree. What more horrible thing for parents to experience than loosing a young adult child to such a thing. Just think of all the hopes and dreams they’ve wanted for that child, now destroyed, from reckless fun.
I realize the adrenaline is flowing, when they go at high speeds down the freeways. Passing cars with the idea that we are “eating their dust”, can only cause a frinzy to the excitement, they feel.
I only hope that the laws are adjusted to stop this kind of accidents, and save the lives of these young people. It’ really sad that anyone has to suffer from reckless actions. Unfortunately, the world is full of uncontrolled stupid actions.
