Relief Help......

There has become an overwhelming interest in organizations that help with disaster's around the world.  I too have become involved in the "Red Cross", but on a smaller scale.  I volunteer 1 or 2 days a week around my local Chapter in the area where I live.  It's not much but the work needs to be done, in order to have things ready for such occasions in our areas as well as our nation.  I'm slowly getting the training I need to be better equipped with the knowledge to assist in disaster readiness, when it occurs.  I feel there needs to be more people concerned and involved so that when the time arrives we will be better prepared.

Tsunami Threatens ........

Sirens blare in Hawaii to alert residents to the impending waves, with authorities asking people living near the water to evacuate.  An 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Chile is sending potentially deadly waves across the ocean at the speed of a jetliner.  The first waves in Hawaii are expected to hit shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday and measure roughly 8 feet at Hilo.
This sounds very dangerous and I do hope our people gather themselves and their families to higher ground.  Our prayers are with the people of Hawaii.

US Ready To Help........

The U.S. pledged to help Chile after a powerful earthquake struck Saturday and kept watch on a tsunami heading for Hawaii.  there is no immediate information on the status of Americans who may be living in or visiting the South American nation. The US Military said it had no reports that any of its forces had been affected either on land or at sea.
The State Department advises Americans seeking information on family and friends in Chile to contact the Bureau of Consular Affairs at 1-888-407-4747.
Our prayers are with these people and any efforts you can make will be appreciated.......

Second Chance.......

Second snow of the season, was a fizzle compared to the snow we had about 2 and a half weeks ago.  I sure was glad that it bypassed our area.........I was without power over 9 hours the last time, and wasn't ready to go through that again.  The temps have been cooler than I had hoped for, but before long we will be wishing for cooler temps.

Training

Last month I joined the Red Cross as a volunteer.  It’s been a slow process on my part.  If they had their way I would be there every day.  Still, I have made sure that this is what I can maintain with often.  I don’t want to become too involved, because it would become a whole different lifestyle, that I’m not ready to adapt to.
I’m really getting into this Red Cross atmosphere.  It’s something that I can do instead of sit at home all the time being bored.  Since I retired, I’ve mostly been sitting around, wondering what I could do to venture out into the world more often.  With the training I will get here, not only will I be able to venture out, but give something as well.

Single Again.......

A single person, has a hard time making things happen in today’s world.  It’s hard to maintain a relationship, even if you get involved.  There are so many things to add stress to a couple’s time alone.  If your single, the night life is where you mostly turn to for a social life.
There have been several times in my life that I found myself single and it was a horrible time for me.  I do believe that this time is even worse, considering I am in my 60's and not many men are interested in a woman who is in her 60's.  It's as if I not longer am capable of anything worthwhile.......and I know better.

Crow's Feet

I'm in the age group that has to put up with wrinkles.  It's not something we like to talk about of even notice.  Wrinkles come with aging so many people go and get wrinkle treatments at various clinics.  There are many creams, gels and other skin products on the market that can help, but have to be used religiously.  Skin treatments, have become renown for their quality surface procedures.

Mardi Gras....

The celebration got an early start this year when the New Orleans Saints pulled off their first Super Bowl win.  But something tells us that NOLA can still find the energy and enthusiasm for the party of parties. Mardi Gras is the time of year to let loose and feast before the fast of Lent, for those who observe. Let's just say that in the U.S., the good people of Louisiana have turned the celebration into high art.  The American version of Mardi Gras dates back to the 1800s. But in 1872, the all-important King of the Carnival was first crowned. Cue krewes, parades, masks, and costumes — and the rest is history.

Age Spots

As I get older I see the signs of aging, developing.  It's hard to accept the changes my body has taken on in the last few years.  I remember those brown  age spots  that were on my grandmother's arms.  I found one or two on my arms recently, and don't like that at all.  I suppose I will need to get some cream, to remove them, so they won't be so noticeable.

Year of the Tiger.........

Year of the Tiger may fall on Valentine's Day, but don't expect a lovefest.
In the U.S., an alignment of Eastern and Western calendars has made for a packed three-day weekend. Both Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day may call for a dual celebration in shades of red and pink.  Under a tiger reign, a reversal of financial fortunes could come to a lot of businesses that have taken a pounding during the recession.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what evolves.

No Power

I was up and down all night worrying about the snow fall and the power.  We lost power and I became worried about the meat in my freezer and it spoiling.  I got up the next morning and l noticed dark circles under my eyes.  I guess that means I lost some sleep over this weather.  I can use one of the  best eye cream for dark circles
that's on the market today, if I can find the extra cash.  Some are very expensive, so I will look for one that's cheaper, and still does the job.

Someone's Coming.........

This device, is set up to trigger an alarm, letting you know that someone has entered your property.  It's a nice asset to anyone's property, and increases when estimating property value. A  driveway alarm is good to have if you live in the country or have a large estate to cover.  People who live in an area that is restricted, can use such devices, to have better security and safety.  Get more information about this equipment, at the above link.

Recent Claims

The weather has been hard on many home owners this winter.  There has been a lot of  damage to their properties, with tree branches breaking for the heavy amounts of ice and snow.  It's smart to have good  home insurance  so that these types of problems can be covered.  I'm sure that when the estimates are made there will be plenty of insurance claims stemming from this bad weather we've had.

Seasonal Rains Threaten Haiti.........

Workers are racing to move victims outside of flood plains and into tents. They are also trying to clear tons of debris from ravines, canals and riverbeds, so rain does not turn the survivors' encampments into breeding grounds for disease. The early spring rains threaten to cause landslides and bring about health problems in the makeshift camps where more than 500,000 people are living.
Rain is already falling in some parts of the country, but Haiti's shattered capital, where most of the quake damage occurred, has been spared so far — a rarity for this time of year, when afternoon showers are common. Steady rains could come as soon as the end of the month, and hurricane season begins in June.

Vacation Packages......

If your interested in going to one of the theme parks in Florida, then I suggest shopping for one of the  Orlando vacation packages  that are offered online. The economy has made it very hard for these vacation spots to make money the way they once did.  They now offer great package deals, at a nice discounted price.  For more information, click on the above link and look around the website.

Mid Atlantic States in Blizzard.........

A fallen tree, responsible for power outages in the vicinity, shows burnt marks after it cut power lines during a heavy snowstorm in Great Falls, Virginia, February 6, 2010. A blizzard producing heavy snow and powerful winds pummeled the U.S. mid-Atlantic on Saturday, causing at least two fatalities and paralyzing travel in the region. Snowfall totals of 20 to 30 inches are forecast from Virginia to southern New Jersey by Saturday evening when the storm is expected to move out to sea.
The snow was falling too quickly in the nation's capital for crews to keep up, and officials begged residents to stay home and out of the way so that roads might be cleared in time for everyone to return to work Monday. The usually traffic-snarled roads were mostly barren, and Washington's familiar sites and monuments were covered with nearly 2 feet of snow.
The storm toppled trees and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of customers in Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Weather Blasts Eastern States.........

Shoppers pack a Giant grocery store in Washington, on Friday, ...
Shoppers jammed aisles and emptied stores of milk, bread and shovels Friday as a massive snowstorm blew into the Mid-Atlantic. Forecasters predicted a record 30 inches or more for the nation's capital, and authorities already were blaming the storm for the deaths of father-son Samaritans in Virginia. The region's second snow storm in less than two months could be "extremely dangerous," and heavy, wet snow and strong winds threatened to knock out power.
The second big storm comes less than two months after a Dec. 19 storm dumped more than 16 inches of snow on Washington. Snowfalls of this magnitude — let alone two in one season — are rare in the area. According to the National Weather Service, Washington has gotten more than a foot of snow only 13 times since 1870.
